Beauty: The Only Accessory You Need

Last night’s celebration of Valentine’s Day involves a lot of red. That can leave a girl like me who only operates in black, white and grey, a little panicky. However, I’m no party pooper. Let the celebration continue.

Of course I have no red in my closet, so I reached for makeup kit and pulled out my trusty friend Ruby Woo (otherwise known as the best matte red lip). It dawned on me after I got my makeup finished that a red lip really is all you need to accessorize any outfit. I feel that way about all shades of red, burgundy, merlot, etc. These lips are such a statement that they can really make any outfit. Here is a pic and break down of my full look last night, using all matte products for a silky, smooth finish. I also added a link to my video of how to apply the perfect dark lip. Lord knows it can get a little messy sometimes!

Eyes:

On lid: Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette in “Foxy”

After I applied “Foxy” all over, I used “Day” from Too Faced Natural Eyes on the middle of the lid to make them pop, as well as using it as a highlighter under brows.

In Crease: Too Faced Natural Eyes in “Cashmere”, blend in

Next In Crease: Using a pencil shaped brush, I used “Sexspresso” from the Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette, to give the eye depth. I also applied this under bottom lash line for definition.

Liner: Bobbi Brown Gel Liner in “Black Ink”

Lashes: MAC strip lash in “Number 3”

Mascara: Benefit They’re Real

Face:

Concealer: MAC Prolongwear

Foundation: Makeup Forever HD Foundation (I used this because it has a matte finish instead of my usual sheer finish with Armani Luminous Silk)

Powder: Makeup Forever HD Powder

Cheeks:

Contoured under cheekbones with: Benefit Hoola Bronzer

Apples of my cheeks: MAC Blush in Harmony

Lips:

Liner: MAC Pencil Liner in Cherry

Lipstick: MAC Lipstick in Ruby Woo

Brows:

MAC eye pencil in Deep Brunette

Don’t be afraid of the red lip! Ruby Woo is an extremely versatile red that I actually use in my kit because it works on so many skin tones. Here is a video I made to help with application! These simple steps will help you get the perfect red lip! Watch here.

  1. I want to know Kelly’s favorite under eye concealer. I have always used Laura mercier but wanted to know if Kelly suggests another brand?

    1. Recently I have really been loving Erase Paste by Benefit. It has a peach undertone which helps counteract the blues and purples of under eye circles. If you use Laura Mercier now it is a similar consistency so it is probably a good way to go. Let me know if you have any other questions!
