You know that feeling when you actually find something you have been searching for over a long period of time? It’s thrilling, invigorating if you will. The excitement overcomes you.
That’s how I felt when I found “Bette” by Nars at Sephora. I can always count on Sephora. I had been looking for the perfect bordeaux lip color for over a year and that’s not even an exaggeration. I felt like the only ones I found were either too red and just boring or too vampy and dark. NARS hit the nail on the head with “Bette.” If you have followed Velvet’s Edge for any time now, you’ve seen me wear this lip color. Also, I’m not exaggerating when I say that every time I wear it someone ask me what it is. I’ve also turned many friends onto this color and use it on set all the time, it’s universally flattering. Since “Bette” is so fierce, it’s important to get the application just right. Dark lipstick can be tricky so I made you guys a little video with my top tips for getting it just right! This Laura Mercier liner is really close in color to Bette so it works really well with it. In the video I lined my lips after because the color is so similar it works. However, if you are using a liner a shade lighter or darker than lip color, line lips first. Also, don’t be afraid to apply lipstick, line and then apply lips again. Multiple coats of the lipstick only helps fill in spots without color and ensure an even application. I always apply lipstick, blot and then apply again for this same reason.
Whenever I am wearing such a strong lip color, I like neutral colors on my eye. Typically I do an off white shade on my lid and a taupe color in the crease. This Too Faced palette is perfect for all these needs and just everyday use in general.
I line lids and then do 2-3 coats of mascara to make eyes pop. While lips are the main focus, the eyes can still shine! I’ve been loving this mascara by Benefit.
