How to Fix Dry Skin Patches Under Your Foundation

I have a love/hate relationship with winter. On the positive note it means cozy nights in, hot toddies, cuddling by the fireplace…but on the other hand, my dry irritated skin begs to differ. Dry, flaky patches aren’t exactly cute and throw your makeup on top and they’re even more noticeable.

That’s where this little trick comes in. Dab some hydrating face oil onto those dry spots after you’ve moisturized and before you put on foundation.

Here’s a super “scientific” guide for applying the oil:
1. Squeeze a few drops of face oil into your palm.
2. Dampen a beauty sponge and wring out the excess water before dabbing it into the oil in your palm.
3. Tap the sponge against any dry, flaky areas until the oil is absorbed.
4. Apply foundation to you face and neck as you normally would.

Why it works: The oil will target problem areas (like the tip of your nose or chin) so that foundation can glide over without clinging. And—bonus—it will help to heal skin more quickly in the process.

Airbrushed-looking skin, sans the Snapchat pretty filter? All yours.

  1. I also have crazy dry skin and perpetually chapped lips. I actually ended up getting a prescription moisturizer for my face (which did wonders) but I found the best OTC option for chapped lips is Paula’s Choice lip balm. I’ve tried almost every chapstick/balm out there and Paula’s Choice is the only one that didn’t leave me dry/peeling.
