Beauty Recap: CMA Awards

If I’m being completely frank, award shows are always kind of a shit show of a day. Lot’s of running around, lots of traffic and security and all on a very tight schedule. For these reasons and many more, I always feel super grateful to be working with such cool, chill people like Dierks and Cassidy Bentley. Here is a glimpse at the glam we did for this year’s CMA Awards and a breakdown of the products I used. Email me with any questions at [email protected] or drop a comment below!

On Cassidy:

I tag teamed Cassidy with an awesome hairstylist Marwa from Parlour & Juke, who killed it. I loved Cassidy’s hair.

On Cassidy’s makeup:

I always start on eyes so I don’t ruin other makeup by getting eyeshadow everywhere. Cassidy likes to do a dark eye because it makes her eyes look bigger. First, I used Urban Decay eye primer all over lid to ensure her makeup lasted all night. Next, I applied Cashmere Bunny from Too Faced Natural Eyes in crease give eye shape. I then used Blackout from the Naked 2 Palette all over the entire lid.

Other products on her eyes:

Bobbi Brown Gel liner on top lash line

MakeUp Forever Aqua Liner in 01 on bottom lash line and both upper and lower waterline (inside of eye)

Ardell Double Individual Lashes

Benefit They’re Real Mascara

Sexspresso Eyeshadow from Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette to fill in brows

On Face:

Givenchy Mister Smooth Primer

MAC Prolongwear Concealer

Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

On Cheeks:

Benefit Hoola Bronzer under cheekbones, on temples and under jawline

MAC Blush in both Dessert Rose & Breath of Plum

Benefit Waats Up Highlighter on cheekbones

On Lips:

MAC Lip pencil in Absolutely It

MAC Lipstick in Whirl over entire lip and Honey Love in center of top and bottom lip

All Over:

After I finish makeup I set with Urban Decay All Nighter Long Lasting Setting Spray

On Dierks:

Although he may kill me for saying this, Dierks has to wear a smidge of makeup on the red carpet or any tv appearances. Luckily, he has great skin so it really is the smallest little amount just to even out skin tone and get rid of under eye circles. This is probably more helpful to other makeup artist, since I don’t really think many normal dudes are putting on makeup on the reg. However, if you are a normal dude and want to wear makeup more power to you. #werk

I always use MAC ProLongwear concealer on under eyes because it is super long lasting with high coverage. I then use my Beauty Blender to use a mix of MakeUp Forever HD Foundation and MAC Face & Body. I like the combo because it looks a little more natural and like real skin, which guys tend to like more. I lean more towards the MakeUp Forever in the T-zone because the Face & Body can look a little shiny on camera. I finish with Laura Mercier translucent powder on nose, undereyes and forehead and either MAC Mineralize Powder everywhere else or Benefit H00la Bronzer depending on how much color he needs that day. I also use a light brown eye shadow to fill in gaps in his eyebrows because he has blondish eyebrow hair that can disappear on camera and look eyebrow-less.

For his hair, he is wanting to grow it out a little and get to a place where we might be able to see some curls again. For this reason, I trimmed the sides and back and just texturized the top without taking much length off. I used Schwarzkopf Osis+ Dust It hair powder to give his hair a little grit since he had just washed it that day and then went back in with Aquage Detailing Cream and applied that to the ends of some pieces to make the look a little more piecey with the slightest bit of edge.
