No, Velvet’s Edge is not turning into a travel blog only. 🙂 However, this IS another travel post, because it’s just what I’ve been doing lately. I have been doing other things of course, but lately the trips I have been on are awesome and quite frankly just need to be documented.
So, continuing with the previous birthday celebration that happened in Chicago, this trip to Punta Mita was a carry over of that. Who am I to turn down an opportunity to take a trip with friends to Mexico?? Am I right?!
So, to Punta Mita we went and I have to say it was absolutely incredible.
Things I like about Mexico:
1. The food
2. It’s breathtakingly beautiful
3. The sunsets
4. Tequila
5. Southwest flies there
6. Tequila (just kidding Mom)
Day 1:This day was a travel day mostly for myself and my man. We arrived to the hotel right around dinner time and joined the group for an awesome dinner in the hotel restaurant. We stayed at the W Punta de Mita. The rooms were colorful, cute and super fun. The grounds were beautiful. The pool was on point (more on that later). The staff was super friendly and accommodating AND to top it off we got a really great deal on a group rate. Punta Mita is known for it’s high end resorts, i.e. St. Regis and Four Seasons, so the W is a nice break on the price from that rate, as well as a more fun, party vibe.
Day 2:
Pool Day at the W Hotel :
Ahhhhh, the pool day. So many laughs, so many drinks, amazing pool side services and to top it off the day ended with a DJ and a live saxophone player circling the pool. It was bizarre and also awesome.
This is my new friend Scotty, working the runway above the pool to saxophone music:

Dinner:
Si Señor – This was probably my favorite place we ate at the entire trip. It was such a fun vibe with live music and amazing views of the water. We ordered family style so the chef just prepared a bunch of their best dishes for us and served it up. We got to pick our own fish that we wanted to be cooked and the mariachi band played everything from La Bamba to Oasis Wonderwall (so random).
Outfit that night:
Maxi Dress and these super fun pom sandals…..so Mexico.
If you don’t see your size on the shoes try this link here
Day 3:
Sayulita:
Sayulita is the cutest little beach town. It’s actually very clean and the building are great. There are tons of street vendors to get good souvenirs and it’s on a beach that apparently has amazing surfing if you are into that. We just walked around, had lunch at a little corner cafe and shopped.
Outfit: Swimsuit and cover up dress, fringe sandals.Find dress here | Find shoes here
You need to be prepared to lay on the beach, be comfortable walking around and cute enough to stop for lunch.
Catamaran:
Honestly, I love a catamaran excursion. I also did this in Barbados and it was the most fun I had on both trips. We actually saw whales! I was dying! It was incredible. We did an inclusive trip, which I think most of them are, but they provide drinks and snacks. Some packages also do lunch. I highly recommend doing this!
Here is the whale we saw! We were so close to it! It was CRAZY cool.
Outfit:Sexy one piece. I don’t know if I would go swimming in this suit per say, but cruise on a catamaran, yep. All day, everyday. Sold out in this color but find other color option here and here
Dinner:
Tuna Blanca – AMAZING seafood. I ordered the Catch of the Day which was Mahi Mahi over enchilada verde. Mexican seafood….yes please.
Outfit:I love a good maxi dress at a great price. Find it here.
Also these shoes are the perfect summer heel. Find them here.
Day 4:
Anytime I take a trip, I like to have one last day to recover, relax and get my vacay on before it’s time to get back to the grind. We did more pool day, a little beach and then ventured into Punta Mita downtown for one last low key meal. We did authentic mexican style this time Rosa Mexicano and it was honestly AMAZING. Definitely order the Cilantro Cheese and the special that night was the lobster so if you happen to be there when they have that, GET IT.
**Tips:
We set up transportation via the hotel which was great for a large group. It is safer than the taxis and they stay on site and wait until you are ready to go. Although it may seem like a pricier option than taking a cab, it made life so much easier that I would suggest saving the extra money beforehand and splurging on that once you are there.
Also, DON’T FORGET TO WEAR SUNSCREEN!! Mexican sun is just stronger. Ask my boyfriend’s shoulders.
