Jade Rolling: Everything You Need to Know | Velvet’s Edge

It’s all over Instagram: jade rollers. While there are several different types of facial rollers and massagers that will provide lymphatic aid, this post focuses on jade rolling: how to do it, why to do it, and the short — and long — term benefits.

What are the skin benefits of jade rolling?

Facial rollers are a beauty tool used to help move the lymphatic system. When our lymphatic system is not moving properly, due to many reasons, such as stress, aging, and so forth, it affects our body’s ability to detoxify, which can lead to puffiness, dull skin, and cause our complexion to lose its glow. Using a facial roller daily helps to boost the complexion, reduce puffiness, and increase collagen production for a youthful glow.

Is there a difference between rose quartz and jade?

Jade stone has been used for thousands of years in ancient rituals for beauty and longevity. The qualities of the stone is that it’s a general healing crystal, helping to detoxify and cleanse the body. It’s connected to the kidneys and adrenals, helping to heal them and balance the hormones, which is essential for clear, glowing skin! Rose quartz is the stone of love, including self-love. It helps to reduce tension and stress in the body, soothe inflammation, and calm the nervous system. It also increases feelings of self-love and self-care, which is so essential to keeping our bodies healthy and feeling beautiful.

How do you “roll” for maximum benefits?

To de-puff and beautify, it’s best to roll from the center of the face out to the sides, and then down the neck. After cleansing skin, apply a few drops of facial oil to the skin. Begin by starting at the center of the face, under the eyes and cheekbones, and move out towards the hairline. Then move down to the jawbone, starting again at the center (the chin) and moving out towards the bottom of the ear. You can also roll above the eyebrows and forehead to reduce tension + pressure from staring at computers all day. To end, gently roll down the sides of the neck towards the center of the clavicle: this helps to send all the toxins built up in the face towards the center of the body where it can be processed and detoxified.

Do you need to prep your skin first? If so, how?

It’s always best to use a facial roller on clean skin.

Can you roll other parts of your body?

A facial roller is a gentle way to boost the lymphatic system and help the body eliminate toxins. One of the reasons it works so well on the face is because of the many acupuncture meridians that are on the face therefore, it’s not really necessary to use a facial roller on the rest of the body as most of the meridian points for the channels are in the face and can be activated there. However, if it feels good to you, go for it! It feels great to roll the sides of the neck especially after sitting at a computer for a long period of time.

What’s the post care for rolling? Any product to use immediately after?

We love to moisturize well after doing any sort of facial routine like facial rolling as it locks all the benefits in and boosts your skin’s glowing complexion.

Any rolling tips or tricks?

For an even more skin tightening and puff-reducing benefits, to prep, you can put your facial roller in the fridge prior to use. The cold helps to contract pores and reduce puffiness for an ultra-skin tightening effect. Applying a facial oil before use can help amplify your beauty routine and make it easier to roll while helping ingredients massage deeper into skin.
