The Low Down On Dry Shampoo

Dry Shampoo is a very pertinent thing in my life. I use it on the reg on myself and on set. Most people know that it is a lifesaver between shampoos, but not everyone uses it for styling too. Here are my favorite dry shampoos, pastes, sprays and the reasons why…

1. Reason for use:

Dirty Hair. I wash my hair about once every 5-6 days. Sounds like a lot to some I’m sure, but I have extensions and it’s just a pain to dry such long hair. I have also worked at it and trained it over the years to last longer and longer. Back in the day, in college, I was an everyday hair washer. Obviously dry shampoo plays a part in between shampoos. Probably around day 3 or 4 (depending on how much I’ve worked out that week), I start to need a refresh.

What I Use:

death valley

Enter R+Co Death Valley Dry Shampoo. I like this dry shampoo because it smells amazing, doesn’t weigh my hair down and it doesn’t leave that annoying white residue on my dark locks. Find it here.

2. Reason For Use:

Texture and hold. I think a major part of not having to wash my hair is how I prep it and the products I use in between shampoos. I hate hairspray. I hate my hair feeling crunchy and sticky and I think using it damages my hair and makes me want to wash it more.

What I Use:

dry shampoo 1

Kevin Murphy Do Over. This is a powder hairspray. The finish is light and matte, not shiny and crunchy. It gives my hair texture and a light hold so it stays put enough to not fall flat, but also has volume and movement of good hair days.

To Use: Shake the can once then spray. For some reason this activates product. I also hold hair up and out and spray throughout the middle and ends while dropping strands. I find this gives the best texture. Find it here.

3. Reasons For Use:

Dirty Roots, Hold. If you just need a spot treatment situation and aren’t a fan of sprays, see below and change your life.

What I Use:

badlands

R+CO Badlands, Dry Shampoo Paste. Use the past on the roots of your hair by melting between fingertips and rubbing from root out to middle of strand. It also helps my hairstyles last all day or night, because the paste is just that, a hair paste. Find it here.

    1. I am ALWAYS switching up my shampoo and conditioner so I don’t really have a go-to. I think right now I have Organixs (can get it at Walgreens or wherever) in my shower and probably a couple more.
